EFOMP is delighted to announce the publication of the Autumn 2020 issue of its quarterly newsletter, European Medical Physics News!
The main theme of this issue of the newsletter is one of celebration, to acknowledge the fact that 2020 marks the 40th anniversary of the foundation of EFOMP! In celebration of this, eight EFOMP Past-Presidents have written fascinating articles about their time in office, beginning with EFOMP’s very first President, Professor John Clifton, and covering the complete span of EFOMP’s four-decade existence. To conclude the set of presidential articles, Marco Brambilla writes about his three years as EFOMP’s current President, while Vice-President Paddy Gilligan tells us what he has in mind for his upcoming presidency. Unfortunately there is also a sad note, since EFOMP’s second President, Professor Jean Chavaudra, passed away in April; in this issue you can read an obituary of this outstanding medical physicist.
The Autumn newsletter contains a number of regular features, including a medical physics book review, and an overview from Physica Medica’s Editor-in-Chief of recent papers published in the journal. We are lucky that our colleagues around Europe are always willing to share with us their diverse interests and hobbies – in this issue we have articles about medical physicists’ voluntary work and volleyball team support!
An interesting development this year has been the publication of a Wikipedia page about EFOMP; you can find an article in the newsletter about how this came about and what was involved.
Articles from EFOMP Company Members are always appreciated by our readership; this time you can find articles from Accuray, Andra, Elekta, LAP, PTW, RTsafe, Sun Nuclear, Varian and Standard Imaging.
Finally, returning to the “EFOMP@40” celebrations, the newsletter includes a call for readers to contribute Haiku verses around the themes of medical physics, EFOMP and our 40th birthday. I encourage you to enter the EFOMP Haiku Contest – winning verses will be published in our next EMP News issue.
I hope you will enjoy reading this issue of European Medical Physics News! Please do feel free to pass on the link or the pdf to friends, colleagues and students who you think might be interested.
