This is an invitation for a Diagnostic Radiology Medical Physics Expert (MPE) to consider an exciting leadership role.
The Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) at Mile End Hospital in East London is planned to go operational this summer. It will contain a Siemens Naeotom Alpha photon counting CT scanner for cardiac imaging and some general imaging. There will also be a Fuji NewTom CBCT scanner.
We are looking for a certificated MPE with experience in CT Physics to manage the Radiation Protection Programme at Mile End and also to be the cross-site Trust Lead MPE for CT. These are exciting days - not only do we have a photon counting CT scanner at a CDC, but we are also about to install a Naeotom Alpha photon counting CT scanner in one of our hospital sites for cardiac imaging. Other than photon-counting CT scanners, we also have a range of other CT scanners in Diagnostic Imaging, in Nuclear Medicine and in Radiotherapy.
Barts Health NHS Trust has a vision to be a high performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in East London and beyond. We are one of the largest NHS Trusts in England and encompasses five hospitals based in Central and East of London as well as a number of community locations, including Mile End hospital. The Trust comprises St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, Mile End Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital and Newham University Hospitals. In keeping with the recommendations of the Richards Review of Diagnostics (2020), we are developing a Community Diagnostics Centre at Mile End Hospital. The creation of the CDC is part of wider programme to reform and renew the delivery of diagnostics to meet increasing demand for services. CDCs will also facilitate patients having their diagnostic tests performed closer to home and within the local community and will be open for 12 hours a day over 7 days a week.
We provide Radiation Safety support for all uses of ionising radiation in the Trust. The Barts and the Royal London sites have been built and equipped under a PFI and have a wide range of digital imaging equipment.
We have this very exciting opportunity for a DR / RP Medical Physicist with experience in CT Physics to join our friendly team. We are looking for a person to act as the lead MPE for the Mile End CDC and as the cross-site Trust Lead MPE for CT. The post holder will also manage the Radiation Protection Programme at Mile End.
You must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist and have MPE certification. An RPA certificate of competence or the ability to submit an application within 12 months is desirable.
The Radiation Safety Section is based at The Royal London Hospital. You will be expected to spend time at the CDC and to work on all Trust and client sites.
